Ahmed Musa’s brace against Iceland made him the first Nigerian to score at two World Cup competitions. His second goal was so iconic that Nigerians turned it into a meme – and to show just how sensational it was, FIFA has shortlisted it for the Goal of the Tournament award.

Out of the 169 goals scored at the tournament, FIFA shortlisted 18. Musa’s goal is the only one on the list by an African player. The shortlist includes goals scored by Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria and Luka Modrić.
Despite Musa’s disappointing showing at Leicester City before the World Cup, we are pretty sure he’s getting the votes of the club’s fans. His appearance at Russia 2018 gave him a chance to redeem himself, and he made the most of it by becoming the club’s first player to score at the World Cup.
You can vote for your favourite goal here. Voting is open until July 23.
I wish I have the skill and confidence of Ahmed Musa in my field of work
