The Afropop superstar Davido says big thanks to Tekno who produced the hit record “IF” because the song changed his life.
2017 was really the year of Davido, as he scored 4 out of 4 with the release of “If”, “Fall”, “Fia” and “Like Dat”. This caused a monumental career renaissance,
In 2016, after he signed a deal with Sony, his sound changed significantly, resulting in the misfire that was the Son Of Mercy EP. He then course-corrected by teaming up with Tekno on “If” — a career-defining banger that would later go on to win ‘Song of the Year’ at the Headies.
about how “IF” came out Davido said :
“I knew myself. I was like, ‘this is not Davido’. My career has always been on fire at all times, [‘till then] there was never a time that I didn’t have a hit out, and that time I didn’t have a hit.
So I called Sony up, and I told them look, you have to let me do what I want to do. That’s what inspired Back to Basics.”
So, it’s not that hard to see why Davido is so appreciative. Since the career resurgence “If” sparked, he has been on an unbelievable roll — blessing us with some of the best afropop songs of the past few years. We just hope Tekno follows suit and gives us a few jams of his own as well!
